This is the only organization of its kind in New York City. More than a singing group, members of New York African Chorus Ensemble perform traditional, popular, and high art songs, and also stage musicals and plays by African playwrights. Our educational programs include seminars, workshops, and lectures directed by knowledgeable choreographers, ethnomusicologists, composers, singers, scholars, drummers, theater practitioners, and traditional custodians of specific cultural information. Our Business Empowerment Through The Arts initiative creates entrepreneurs and or assist people to grow their business. Membership in the organization gives everyone the opportunity to learn African songs, dances and instrumental playing techniques. In addition, through our workshops and seminars the community learns the cultural practices of specific ethnic groups in an African country further breaking down negative stereotypes and strengthening our communities.
